What is Experiential Therapy?
Experiential Therapy is not necessarily a specific type of psychotherapy. Experiential Therapy is used to refer to different types of therapy, approaches, or techniques that require engaging in some type of activity or action.
The “Experience” itself provides the clients the opportunity to practice problem solving skills and practice new behaviors in a therapeutic environment.
It benefits clients by providing them more insight and self awareness when faced with challenging situations. It benefits the therapist as it provides the therapist more insight and opportunity for constructive feedback for his/her clients.
The goals are healing and psychological growth. Some examples, but not limited to are: Gestalt Therapy, Adventure Therapy, Wilderness Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, More examples to follow.
